Today we’d like to introduce you to Cord Stone.
Cord, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Stargazer Productions was formed in 2007 with the creation of the thematic show band, The Space Rockers. As a musician and businessman, I sought to create a band that was fun and unlike any other performing group, devising the concept of The Space Rockers, which are superheroes from outer-space on a mission to bring back “The Groove” to Earth. I performed as “Captain Cosmos” with other talented musicians playing characters, wearing custom costumes, doing sweet dance moves, and interacting with the voice of our spaceship on stage. The Space Rockers were an instant hit, offering something out of the ordinary.
Following the success of The Space Rockers, I began to create other themed bands and show bands with avant-garde, contemporary images. Today, Stargazer’s top-performing bands include: The Space Rockers, Electric Circus, Satellite, The After Party and First Class. The genres of music include Motown, 80s’, 90’s, Top 40 Dance, and Country hits from all decades. The bands perform live music venues, weddings, corporate events, galas and fundraisers, private parties, universities and festivals. I’ve also started adding great DJ’s to my roster of talent.
My bands started performing at clubs, casinos and city festivals where they gained recognition and began to be hired for corporate events, proms, frats/sororities and weddings. Some of Stargazers’ awesome clients include: CITGO, Ronald McDonald House, New York Life, USAA, Google Fiber, San Antonio Spurs, Southwest Airlines Federal Credit Union, DELL, Green Leaf Tea, The Steeple Chase Debutante Ball, The University of Mary Hardin Baylor, Dallas International School, University of North Texas and many, many more.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I am very grateful for all the opportunities I’ve had and I’m fortunate to work with great musicians and singers, sound engineers, agents and venues, and to have a wonderful family that keep me sane.
I suppose the entertainment industry is like other industries; it’s an ebb and flow between good and bad days. There is not enough time in the day, and it is a challenge to balance being a business owner, father and husband. The toughest part of this job is navigating a course when there are so many different factors and obstacles to account for that deter my focus. Equipment malfunctions, personality conflicts between artists and questionable actions by some people in the industry are issues that I am often confronted with. I’ve come across some fabulous people in this business and have been greatly disappointed by others. It’s a struggle to push out the negativity and self-elevating actions of others and keep going forward clearheaded and unaffected by their behavior.
I began my career as a team-player musician in a band and ended up owning a business, so perhaps my philosophy of gaining success differs from others whose feel that the view from the top cannot be shared by more than one person.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Stargazer Productions – what should we know?
Stargazer is known for creating unique party bands that are the feature of parties, rather than background music. Clients will frequently theme their events around the bands. The Space Rockers have performed several Space Balls and Superhero themed parties, and Electric Circus is a favorite for Vintage or Circus themed events. However, they don’t have to be themed for the bands to make a huge impact on guests. Upon request, any of the bands will dress in formal attire for black tie events or weddings. Also, we make the bands larger when needed by adding horn players, dancers, or extra musicians/singers.
Stargazer bands are popular choices for Private functions, corporate parties, special events, and city festivals. You can also catch them at public venues like Sambuca 360, Bedford Ice House, Sherlock’s Pub and others. They are ultra-cool and modern with versatile song lists and high stage energy and charisma. The bands are known for keeping dancefloors packed and are family friendly for festivals and college or high school events. Stargazer Productions provides, “FUN Bands for COOL People!”
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Talent, vision, perseverance, problem-solving and determination are all key components in success. I can’t narrow it down to one quality because they are all important, synergistically leading to greater achievements. I work long hours and devote a lot of time and effort to the bands and business to make them grow. A successful person, never gives up and learns from past experiences to make improvements in themselves and the business operation.
