Today we’d like to introduce you to Hilary Tipps and Steve Obermiller.
Hi Hilary and Steve, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Certainly not! We met after Hilary moved back home to Fort Worth after the death of her father, so we dealt with that grief early on. Shortly after getting married, we spent several years trying to have children without success. While coming to grips with this reality, Hilary’s mother came under our care with a diagnosis of early-onset dementia. We spent six years taking care of her until her death. During all of this time, Hilary began college to become a nurse, started her nursing career, and earned her master’s degree to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, only to begin her new job as a CRNA in March of 2020, just in time for the pandemic to start!
Early in our marriage, Steve lost his 20-plus-year career in the printing business when the company he worked for declared bankruptcy and closed its doors. He changed careers to become a Special Education and 4th grade teacher until the pandemic hit.
Finally, in 2022, we embarked in earnest on our long-delayed musical journey together, which is a joy to do after all of these years.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Hilary’s “day job” is working as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. Steve manages their music career.
As professional musicians we are a songwriting duet who perform locally and regionally. We list ourselves as Folk/Americana, but our writing style encompasses many influences.
What makes us unique to other artists is our shows. We are known for our connection to our audience through interaction with them and story-telling that make them laugh and cry all in one show. It is a genuine look into our lives together. All of the years of laughter and heartache laid out on the table.
We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
We are pretty much open books! People who don’t know us think we are much younger than we really are and are surprised to hear we are grandparents.
