Today we’d like to introduce you to James Garland.
Hi James, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I started pursuing music professionally at the age of 26 by the strong guiding hand of my late lead guitar player, David “Dagan” Gann. I sat down with him for guitar lessons and played a song I had written called “My Next Mistake,” that went on to be our first release. After hearing that song, he pushed me to start a band and begin the long journey of gigging and writing more songs. Before we knew it, we were performing 6-8 shows a month all over Texas with 6 back-to-back Top 100’s on the Texas Regional Radio Chart.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the biggest obstacles that has occurred has actually been the most recent. In May of this year (2023), I lost my best friend and lead player, David “Dagan” Gann to diabetes. We had just came back from the road opening up for Diamond Rio in Chorpus Christi, TX, Bandera, TX, and Headlining Rowdy Bucks in Crosby, TX, on his birthday May 20th. The following weekend he said he wasn’t feeling well enough to perform, so we rescheduled our Friday night Show since I never performed without him. At 3 a.m. that Saturday, I got a call from my sister saying Dagan was headed to the hospital, and the paramedics had picked him up. After a week of practically living at the hospital, we all said our final goodbyes to one of the best men I have ever had the pleasure of sharing this life with. The road back to the stage was one of the absolute hardest things/obstacles I have ever had to overcome in this industry and one I won’t soon forget.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Country Music has always been rooted deep in my heart. The shows are always high energy and electrifying, and we give it our all every second we are on that stage. I’m most proud of the effort and dedication not just from the band but from the fans we have amassed over the years.
Any big plans?
The biggest change happening for us is our first National Release in September of 2023. Our song “Hangin’ On for Dear Life” makes its National Debut, and behind it is a lot of excitement to see how well it’s received across the U.S.
