Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Wax.
Jennifer, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started J L Glamour a little over five years ago after moving back to Texas from Nashville. It started out as a fun hobby and something to do in my free time, but then over the years, it became a passion of mine.
Growing up, my mom always had a camera in her hand, she called it her American Express, she never left the house without it, and being in front of the camera was a given all my life. However, growing up, I wanted to pursue and follow in my mom’s foot steps so I always asked for a camera for whatever holiday it might be. Over the years I probably had every brand you could possibly think of, but Canon was the one I always came back to. In college, I had to take some electives that were outside of my degree plan, so I deiced to take a black n white film course. Every waking moment when I wasn’t in class or at work, I was in the lab developing my latest “master piece”. I would spend countless hours trying to perfect one single image. It became an obsession and my new addiction. Photography was becoming my life and I wanted to learn more. I moved back to Texas my senior year of college and graduated from UNT (Go Eagles!) with a degree in Applied Arts and Science with a specialty in business. I knew the business side, but now I wanted to learn the actual art. So, a little bit after graduation I took a job with Lifetouch Portrait Studio to get some hands-on experience. I loved everything about that job, but I wanted more. Finally, I gave in and started taking photography sessions on the side. I was in heaven, my creativity started flowing, and I knew I found exactly what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I never stop learning. I love learning new techniques and playing with new equipment all the time, and I love pushing myself to try and take on new challenging sessions. Photography has become my life and I love sharing it with everyone.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I had some of the typical struggles at first. I didn’t have the money to buy the camera and gear I needed to go out on my own, so my parents stepped in and invested to help me get over that hurdle. It was a major relief and helped me out drastically. Later on, I had the struggles of trying to market myself just right and find the right clients for my brand, and I’m not a patient person at all, but it took time and a lot of people reminding me “the right clients will find you”. If it wasn’t for my family and friends supporting me and backing me, I don’t think I would have made it this far. All businesses go through some situation or another, but when you are in a sea with thousands of other people that can and have been doing the same exact thing you are wanting to do, it puts a hardship on your heart and sometimes, it just makes you want to throw in the towel. In fact, I did just that. I took a year and a half off of photography. I got married and I had my daughter. It was the break I needed to help shine a better light on my dream and my business. Now, I can’t see myself doing anything else.

J L Glamour is a photography business in the DFW area. We specialize in wedding photography. We do everything from the engagements and bridals to the magical day itself. We pride ourselves on being budget friendly. We want all of our brides to receive the utmost best for their special moment and not stress over the price tag. We know what it’s like to plan the perfect wedding but also have to deal with a budget, so our goal is to help take that stress away.
We strive to make all memories last a lifetime, as the saying goes “a picture speaks a thousand words” and that is exactly what we want to give our clients.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are hoping to open a studio on the outside of Fort Worth to give our clients a space to come all year long for whatever occasion they may need. We have always been an on-location photography company and we pride ourselves in being creative with fun and vibrant outdoor locations for graduation, family, bridal, maternity or any special occasion, and we are always excited to find new venues. Having an indoor studio to play with as well, would open many opportunities for different backdrops and props and take out the need to forecast Texas weather!
