Today we’d like to introduce you to LaMonica Williams.
LaMonica, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I never thought I would do balloons! I always wanted to be a doctor growing up, but I got pregnant at 15 and eventually dropped out of school. However, I was fortunate enough to go back to school and obtain my GED and later attended college. During this time, I was a single mother who was working and attending college, so I didn’t have a lot of time to spend with my daughter. For my daughter’s 6th birthday, we decide to make custom invitations so we could spend some time together. To my surprise, they turned out great and plenty of family and friends wanted us to make their kids invitations. That was my first experience during any arts and crafts. However, I didn’t get into balloons until my second child’s 3rd birthday. We had it at the park and I decide to decorate the entire gazebo. So I have to give my kids credit for bringing the craftiness out of me. Funny thing is they are 12 years apart, so each one brought something out of me at different intervals of my life.
We’ re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not too mention the big elephant in the room, but the most significant challenge currently is the havoc the Coronavirus is having on everyone. I haven’t been affected that much, but I know several of my colleagues have had several cancellations. However, I understand we need to keep everyone safe and shutting everything down was the right thing to do to ensure public safety. Prayerful sometime in the near future, things will get back to normal.
