Meet Sherri Reed of Sanctuary For Life in North Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherri Reed.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Sherri. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am, by nature, a women’s advocate, working for positive change by helping people pay it forward one good deed at a time. Our world is in great need of love and compassion and each of us has a part to play in making a positive difference.

Throughout my life, I have expressed those values through Sanctuary For Life www.sanctuaryforlife.org, a non-profit corporation dedicated to caring for exhausted caregivers and those who give generously to others who all too often neglect themselves.

I started Sanctuary For Life in response to a message I received in the white light of my near-death experience when I was 17. There, a presence I identified as Jesus told me that it was not my time and I was to go back and help people heal, especially women. I was to provide them with a transformational experience of nurturing, compassion and sanctuary. I was to provide profound healing, rejuvenating experience that would change their lives. I was told there would be five “Sanctuary For Life” properties that had pristine soil and plentiful clean water where people could come and experience true Sanctuary. This, I was told, was to be my mission in life.  And so it is. Our testimonials from Sanctuary guests confirm that we are on the right track and for that, I am humbled and grateful.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
In building Sanctuary For Life, there have, of course, been challenges along the way. The most difficult challenge for me to overcome has been learning that, as someone once said, “I have learned not to listen to what people say but I watch their actions for actions don’t lie.

One of my most life-altering challenges came not long after I had received my mission. Working as a model in Florida, I was painted sliver for a magazine cover featuring an Evinrude boat motor called the Silver Starlight. They painted me with lead-based silver paint, told me it wouldn’t hurt me and shot me for four hours in the burning Florida sun, which baked lead into my body. During years of suffering the effects of heavy metal poisoning, I had many occasions to think about the difference between words and actions.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Sanctuary For Life – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Sanctuary For Life provides rest, rejuvenation and renewal for exhausted caregivers. Our services include gracious lodging in nature, individualized gourmet cuisine, peaceful environments, therapeutic massage and other proven stress reduction modalities. Every aspect of a Sanctuary space is designed to enhance human autonomic relaxation responses — from the soothing colors to the brain-stimulating aromas of essential oils, to the sounds of birds and the beauty of nature, to flowing water and music that generates relaxing brain waves. With everything that enters the senses selected to trigger relaxation responses, stress relief is virtually inevitable. Guests describe Sanctuary as a life-changing experience.

Currently, I am operating an urban day-sanctuary in Dallas and two overnight sanctuaries near Glen Rose, TX where guests can enjoy the peace and tranquility of natural surroundings.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future of Sanctuary For Life include furthering my sanctioned approval for Educational, Scientific and Charitable purposes and expanding our services to include programs on kindness and mindfulness for both adults and children.

In conjunction with operating Sanctuary For Life, I design corporate Sanctuary spaces and make presentations to corporate, civil and religious organizations. I have a book coming out entitled Sanctuary From Stress– A Step by Step Guide to Creating Sanctuary Wherever You Are that shows the reader how to create their own Sanctuary space. I am also the founder of Good Deed Ambassadors, a website www.gooddeedambassadors.com designed to help make the world a better place by introducing exceptional humanitarians who provide services to people in need, paying it forward one good deed at a time.

Personally, I am a native Dallasite who attended Hillcrest High School. I have an amazing adopted daughter who operates Earth’s Creation, a nutritional supplement manufacturing company with her husband in Greenville, SC. I also have three gifted and deeply loved grandchildren and I enjoy participating in several women’s groups through which I give full voice to my spirituality and femininity.

Being deeply rooted in my belief in prayer and miracles I am dedicated to the pursuit of positive change through education, love and compassion.
