Today we’d like to introduce you to RaSheen Johnson.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always been an individual with a high drive and entrepreneurial spirit. It started as a “side hustle” back in 1997 during high school. Over time my skillset increased, and the hustle turned into a passion, that later revealed to be my purpose. Sitting in my chair is more than a “cut” it’s an experience. I try to deposit “gems of life” to all I have an opportunity to service, whether that be giving back to the community, encouragement, a listening ear, realistic guidance, confidence by way of the haircut, and an all-round “positive vibe”
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not a smooth road at all. When I began to pursue barbering professionally, I started as an apprentice which was a two-year program in 2003. During that time, I was working full time and was very active in ministry as well. I was also somewhat newlywed. So, I was spread really thin. During my apprenticeship, my wife and I were blessed to be expecting. This caused me to have to pull back on some things and I chose to not continue my apprenticeship. However, I continued to cut hair on the side from home with a desire to later become a full-time barber. It was literally 10 years later before I became a licensed barber in 2014.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I consider myself an image consultant offering grooming services across all age groups, genders, and nationalities. Offering various styles of haircuts, beard grooming, facials, eyebrow shaping, designs (I like to call hair art), as well as consulting clients on what style compliments them best. I also have quality beard oil and other merchandise.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
That I have struggled in the past with insecurities of my work and skillset and that I’m my worst critic.
